FB 6-26 Fluke
« on: June 27, 2011, 02:06:37 PM »
Left Keansburg at 0630 with "1st string" crew of Ross, Dibbs, and Dougger for a day of Fluking.. after a quick fuel stop, we attempted to make a few drifts in front of the hook, but gave way to a trio of tow boats, that where in the process of dragging off a 26ish ft. walkaround that was about 10 yards up the beach.. sad to see..  nosmly  made a drift on the green side of the channel, while we watched the activity, but that  only produced a few shorts.. decided to run out to the area we fished last week , south of the hook in 40-50 fow..  Had a little slower bite than last week, but still lots of action, and a little better ratio of keepers and nicer fish.. Obviously my last post offended the gods of fish, or diesels or somebody, because about noon we notice a smell of fuel and upon checking found a leaking fitting..  rgmn  was at first hesitant to attempt repair at sea for fear of breaking the fitting leaving us stranded, so started heading back to the bay.. but it got worse, so we got out the tools and was able to fix the problem.. By this time the tide had dropped out, and we decided to head in early.. getting back to the dock about 1:30 with 12 nice fluke to about 23" and a couple bonus C-biscuits.. other than the brief pucker factor, and visions of another march of shame behind a seatow boat, the day turned out to be pretty sweet..  ;D  chrz
