Hunter 2- Fluke July10th -2011
« on: July 11, 2011, 08:29:05 AM »
We shoved off out of Keyport around 10:30am with Cashin, Steve(Massbaster}, Jersey Joe, and Jimmy the natural on the boat. The first drop was at the Raritan Reach by the 6 to 12 cans. The Fluke started coming up steady and Chris pulled in a 21" for the box. We decided to make a long run down to the rocks so around the hook we went. Chris got a call about a boat sinking in the area with the Coast Guard and NYC police boat on hand. While heading down the beach we saw a guy in a center console beached on Sandy Hook with the waves braking over the boat, Not much we could have done for him without putting us in harm. :P
At the rocks we had a steady pull of Fluke on spearing and squid, Bucktails and dragging bait were all producing. Over 70 Fluke were caught and 5 keepers were in the box. After cleaning the boat and fish everyone came back to my house with the ladies and kids for a swim in the pool and BBQ Fluke with grilled vegetables, Pasta, beer and wine..  Perfect ending to a great day. t^ chrz

     Good Luck,,  Eddie t^

Nice trip and report Eddie. We all know you are in your own time zone.  ;D

The CG has been broadcasting marine information for the past several days about the 'recreational boaters running aground outside the Sandy Hook channel and for the boaters to update their charts'. Seems like the guys are relying more on their chartplotter than what they are able to see and run up on the beach.  5hrug

Nice run Eddie !! Exactly what I A Joe said ...I was personally speaking with a Captain from Millers/Tow Boat over the weekend and he said toooooooo many guys depending on GPS and not keeping a eye on the channel markers...going aground. Be careful out there.

Fine report on an all around great day!   clp  Way to make up for lost time Eddie!  TT^  Joe, you are spot-on about the groundings around the hook.. I was commenting this past weekend that my current navionics chart shows about 100-200 yds of water  where there is now land.. what I don't understand is why day and night everyone insists on cutting that corner.. rather than use the channel marker.. its only a couple hundred extra yards.. plus, there are always boats drifting in the rips there..bad spot..
