Head Boat out of B. Light 7/9
« on: July 11, 2011, 12:57:29 PM »
Went out on a trip for blues saturday night...they kept us out till 2 am...and the entire boat was skunked...had to drawthe pool out of a hat for the winner.  Got a $10 credit for the next time hhppy

The only reason I went for blues was to catch something...whole boat skunked was anew one for me
New to surf fishing...

Never heard of a bluefish head boat being completely skunked before, but I also have not seen many bluefish around lately.

Yeah, where are all the big boys?  I remember this time last year catching them up like crazy right by the sailboats.  Not that I care to eat them, but it's fun to put some of my "new to fishing" friends on some beastly fights.

The whole fleet had a rough couple of days. They claim they have good water and solid reads but some days cant get the bite. Many trips have been staying late hoping for it to turn on. Every year is differnt but most seasons the blue boats dread late July for the big fish as they are said to go on the spawn. Some boats will even stopping looking for the slammers for a week or so and chase small jig fish in the 3to5 lb range just to get the rods bending. Best of luck on your next trip

I've been on party boat bluefish trips a few times where the whole boat was skunked.  As a teen I actually won the pool when I managed to jig up the only fish caught on the entire boat! ;D

It can happen anytime of the year, but as Captain Birch said, July seems to be the worst time for catching the yellow eyed demons.

Get 'em next time! t^

there usually is a couple weeks every year the bite dies down due to spawning.  Not sure when it is, but around this time.  This is a possibility.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.

My last trip out on a party boat, the NK3, a few years back, was skunked on a night blues trip.  Blamed it on the spawn.  My buddy went out on the MBP last week and there was one blue caught on the boat.
