Headed back out with the same 4 man Crew for day 2 Of the Shba tournament. Bob Bates, Joe Jigs, Tony Trigs and Cool Hand Al were back looking for a Mat after the fluke annihilation yesterday.
Back to the same area we had the crazy bite yesterday...Well what a difference a day makes.
Perfect conditions but it was a tough bite... did manage a few keepers on each of our first few drifts but ya really had to work for them. They were in small patches... get a couple bites and fish then it would be barren.
Everyone we talked to had a slow or similar type bite so we decided to stick with it.
Plucked a Keeper here n there... just kept working the patches until they dried up and then went searching for another. While hoping to get the right one we did slowly start to put together decent cooler. Few Nice Fish one around 7 another at 6 but we already knew we needed better.
The little bite we had completely died and we were down to a stray keeper here n there.
Got a call from Bagel boy Gene (thanks again u da man) who was just a Little to our north... He didnt have great bite going but he wanted to let us know he caught a Few nice keepers in between catching some biscuits and that he dropped a real good one.
Went over to take a drift... few shorts and a Keeper. Next Als Rod doubled over and up to the net came a Big Fish that our scales had between 9 - 9 1/2.
Ran off to the weigh ins as that was as it was close to the leader.
Weighed up at 9.4 lbs which exactly tied the first place leader. Since the other fish was weighed first it took 1st and we took second place and winnings. Little disappointing but it was a great fish and we made it on the board again this year and had a blast doing it!
Never had a steady bite and the guys worked real hard to make something out of a slow grind.
By days end we Boxed up 31 Keeper Fluke up To Als 9.4 lber!!! Also had one around 7 and another at 6lbs.
Couldnt really ask for a better weekend. Between the two days the we landed over 110 Keepers!!!!! Ten over 6lbs, Two Over 7lbs, and Al Big One at 9.4lbs!!!!
Myself and Wayne cant thank the guys enough for doing this event every year with us. Loads of fun! Looking forward to it again next year!
Congrats to Al who had been on a tear this year with the big fluke!!!
