Finally got to get out and fish for a few hours with my uncle. I was on the sand and fishing by 6PM. My uncle had already setup on some real estate at the end of Dover Ave in Lavallette when I got out there. There was a nice hole he was setup on as well as a hole around the 2nd Ave area in Ortley Beach and another one north of us. We had the incoming tide, wind was out of the southeast around 5-10 knots, waves were 2-4 feet. Water was really clean/clear and warm. We were chunking bunker on 2 poles and 2 poles plugging various lures. Bait was able to hold with 4oz.
Lots of small groups of birds working small pods of bait...most out of casting range. Then a small group worked its way in and ended up almost on the beach. After a couple of casts, I was hooked up just a couple feet off the beach in a foot of water. It was a small school of cocktail blues gorging on rain fish. I was throwing a long hammered Hopkins with green/white hook and a white with clear flashing teaser.
Ended the night around 9:30P with just the one fish. Our chunked bunker never got a hit, even with the school of blues that moved through! It was a great night. It was nice to get out and fish and fun doing a little catching too. I even donated some "silver" to the ocean due to some mechanical/operator error, lol! It was nice to fish with my uncle as well and great company. We packed up and hit the Crystal Diner for some eats to finish off the night.
