union support
« on: August 08, 2011, 07:40:05 PM »
Hey all, I am an IBEW local 827 member and we are on strike against Verizon right now. Please show support by not crossing any picket lines. Verizon is trying to take away our health insurance and our pension. They are trying to take away sick time and make cost of living raises near impossible. there are many other issues but these are enough in my opinion..........
Thanks in advance. Keith

Seems to be the new trend Keith. All of the big companies are trying to get as many consessions as possible. Best of luck Keith!

I work in the private sector and all that stuff was taken away years ago, so consider yourself lucky with what you do have.

better get used to doing it on your own, probly sooner than you think.

Back to work WITHOUT an agreement?  :headscra: Is that so the union does not have to start paying $200 / week strike pay to everyone? Then again, I do understand that  being out for an extended period of time is tough financially for the union members. Good Luck with the contact negotiations,I wish you guys well . <'((((><

No sir. We came back under the old contract and now we work while they continue to bargain for the new one. I believe we have a one month extension. either party can back out at any time with 7 days notice. So we could easily be back out on the streets. We never wanted to strike in the first place but verizon would not even sit down to do collective bargaining........Now they are. Its a good step in the right direction.   Thanks for the support every body.

Always better to continue working under the old contract and not loose money while on strike. That is a no win situation for everyone involved, both strikers and employers.

I hope all goes well with the negotiations and you can come to a reasonable agreement with management.

Yes Joe, I agree 100%.   I do beleive the labor laws state that without a current contract , you fall back on the expired contract, so why go out in the first place? I do love the idea of protesting in front of the CEO's house clp clp clp, that was great. From our union to yours makokeith, we wish everyone under the union contract  at Verizon the best,  chrz chrz and we did not cross any picket lines. TT^  <'((((><
