Fall in the flats
« on: September 20, 2011, 02:08:08 PM »
Typically in past seasons I had most of my fall success either drifting eels north of the SH tip in the channel edge, or plugs just outside the breakers.  I'm looking pretty set to have the boat back and repowered by the next couple days  t^ t^ and like to take some night time trips out.  Seeing as I'm in Keyport, I was thinking about hitting the flats around union beach, Cliffwood, and Keansburg beach with plugs just to keep the trip shorter.  Never tried the area in the fall before, but I suspect it should be productive at night in the right conditions.  Am I on the right track in these areas?  Also, has drifting eels proven any success around there in the shallows?
The cure for everything is salt water: sweat, tears, and the sea.

In past years, I'd chase them under birds all through that area in October and November. No reason why they wouldn't be prowling the flats at night.

You can try pulling Strech 15's or swimming plugs with a 2oz egg sinker too.

good luck!
