Avet MXJ 5.8:1 reel good for Tog?
« on: September 30, 2011, 01:48:39 PM »
I am stressing out for this Tog trip, hoping I have the right gear.  I'd rather not have to buy a new reel so I'm wondering if my Avet Reel would work out ok?  Any thoughts from the sharpies?

That will work just fine. Load it with 50lb braid. If you "have" to buy new reel buy a Newell p220 or p229

OK cool, I'd rather not have to.  I am by no means a Tog sharpie so I'd rather not start buying gear until I have to.  Got 50 on it already, so good to go.  Thanks!

I also find myself stressing about this trip  5hrug  I am bringing my Kevin Bogan rod with an Avet JX6 spooled with 50lb braid.  I am bringing my Trevala 6.6 with a Calcutta TE300 (30lb braid) as backup or to toss jigs if that opportunity arises. I have lots of lead and will tie some snafu rigs and snell some single hooks before the trip.

Don't sweat too much, my Avet will likely be hanging on an ugly stick.   cfzd

Wow that heavy? Like I said I've only been togging once and we were using 6oz guess we were in shallower water on a calm day??
