Upper New York Bay 10-1-11
« on: October 01, 2011, 11:08:54 PM »
Fished from 12-3 this afternoon. I had 2 rods out, one with a hi/low rig with small hooks and small bits of sandworms hoping for some porgies, seabass, and kingfish and a heavier one with a 2/0 hook and a whole sandworm hoping for something a little more substancial. I ended the day with 8 striped bass to 20" and 2 kingfish around 7". Most of the fish came on the heavier rod with the whole sandworm, even some of the small bass around 9" were caught on this. The action on the lighter rod was slow, but the biggest fish of the day, the 20" striper came on this rod. Boy was that a fun fight. Small 7" kingfish put a bend in that rod, imagine what the 20" striper did. All in all it was a pretty good day. Perfect weather for the most part with a mild breeze, had to deal with showers the last half hour I was there. I would of stayed longer but I had the late shift at work tonight.
