What other species....
« on: October 24, 2011, 06:59:20 AM »
Morning All:
With the striper season still slow...I thought I would start a discussion on what other species you go after when the striper population is not plentiful. Perhaps you could also share your bait/jig of choice...

Well u could fish for porgies and blackfish. Were kinda new with them so the rigs we buy are "ready made". We use sand worms or clam for bait, seems clam works a little better lately!!

Altho the bass are pickie right now the water temp. has begun to fall{just not fast enough} and they should be ready to move any day now.
Seems Irene has slowed up the fishing all around since she blew through fishing has been off...

 good luck to you....

From shore the blackfish are still in large numbers on the inshore rockpiles. It's tough fishing but loads of fun when you get the hang of it. A party boat would be a great way to learn. All of the inlets hold these fish as well as the pt. pleasant canal and perhaps a few other haunts I'm forgetting.

Green crabs are by far the bait of choice for tog.

The usual bottom fish. Porgys, kingfish, seabass, and tog.

Banged the porgies last year over some shallow rocks on 007 diamond jigs tipped with clam or alittle gulp.  I'd definitely give that another try if I were in a position to do so.

Thanks for the info gents...I was looking for options since at the pier no blues or stripers were latching on...so I thought perhaps a different strategy and a different target...
