Hi All,

Twin Lights - I fish for it every time I am out. Have not been fortunate enough to catch an All TAckle record. I had a potential World Record Sea BAss that I screwed up. I am fishing for a Line Class Record Sea Bass on August 31. We are video taping the trip. What is the point?

Joey G.,

Got your point.

However, the Weakfish record (All Tackle is 19.2 (not 18.2) and it is a tie - page 285 of the 2007 IGFA WOrld Record Gamefishes book).

She received a NJ Skillful Angler award for that fish. Weakfish - 18 lbs, 1 oz. caught by Monica Oswald of Neptune on August 25. Monica was fishing from a boat around Asbury Park when she landed the fish. Twelve-pound test was used with a conventional Daiwa rod and a Shimano reel. Mullet served for bait. The fish measured 33½ inches in length. Girth was unavailable.

She currently has a 4.1 Flounder and 13.3 Blackfish in the fisherman Dream Boat contest.

She landed a near NJ State record stargazer last week or so.

She landed a documented big trout.

This is all confirmed.

There would not be anything on the IGFA site as she has not completed the paperwork. You have a year to submit an All Tackle record.

60 lb. and on to the record ...

I made the post clearer.

SHe has an IGFA World Line Class Record and a 2006 NJ State Skillful Angler award for the weakfish.

Thanks for pointing that out!

just trying to help this debate with a little NJ history..

I just read she is claiming racoons got the the fish and it was not on ice!!

this is getting better and better

I will give all the credit on line class but fish and game  website has a list of the record species!!!

Ps. Capt. Ed its ok!!! I still believe you get credit for the location best spots on the water!!

Hi Joe,

Now the braid question is the million dollar question.

Her IGFA line class record for the weakfissh was with mono.

I have written to the IGFA and Power Pro about this on Friday. Neither has responded yet but with the weekend, they may not have had time.

I believe the rules read monofilament, multifilament and leaded multifilament.

To be recognized, braid would have to be classified as multifilament. Is it? Time will tell.

There is one other pending World record mentioned on the Power Pro site for a Hammerhead.

Can this lead to a rule change?

We will have to wait and see.

Right now, I plan to use mono for any World Record attempts. NJ State is more liberal with their definition.

Great question!

Ed

Another red flag perhaps?

Supposedly there is an article in todays (08/21) NY Newsday where she (Monica) claims that the fish is no longer available for inspection. Apparently according to this article she left it in a cooler outside where animals got to it.

I'm going to pick up a copy of Newsday on my way into the office this morning to confirm.

About 3/4s of the way down in this article it does state that the fish had been ravaged by animals.

Hi All,

So what?

If all the pictures are done and it was looked at by a Marine Biologist, she does not have to keep it. It is stupid if she does not.

This may be a credibility issue but so far ... so what?

The IGFA will be my judge ...

Ed,

I know you are trying to stay neutral on the subject.. But as I read read more newspaper articles and statement being made.. it's getting hard to believe .. That you catch a potentail world record fluke and take such poor care of it.. You leave outside of a cooler for animals to get too.  You don;t ice it!!! The story is changing all the time in the paper!!

I hope its true.. but wow is it really starting to look  hard to believe.. The only true thing so far is big fluke are out there!!

Hi Joe,

I just wrote that in an article on the front page.

The lessens I hope to learn are:

1. What is the IGFA position on braid? The IGFA and Power Pro have not responded to my emails, still. This is strange in that Power Pro claims that they will answer your questions within 24 hrs.

2. When I use stinger hooks, I think I am in compliance. It all comes down to how you hook the bait. I have to re-think even using them.

3. There are some big fish out there ...

Stay dry and warm (this weather is killing me),

Ed
