Is that big?  I'm kinda new to saltwater fishing.  I caught one off the tip that was 39in.  and let it go.  I thought is was an average size since I caught 4 over 30in that day.  JuSt KiDding  :P thats one heck of a fish

Hi All,

It may have been on a private boat.

It was not caught by any of the Capts. of Shore Catch.

However, the fish has been confirmed to be a potential IGFA World Record by the owner of Scott's Bait and Tackle. I say potential because all the paperwork and such must be filed.

A new target to shoot at folks!

Capt. Ed

yea got an email this morning that stated that Capt Jim’s good friend Scott Christensen owner of Scott’s Bait and Tackle in Bradley Beach called him and told him he had just weighed the new record fish....

ya know how it goes as word gets passed down the line and is totally different by the time 10 people have heard it....

Hi Broken One,

Now you have something to really shoot for.

Do you know if mono or braid was used (I have read it was 65 lb. Power Pro)? And then the followup, is braid accepted by the IGFA?

I remember asking a while back but I don't remember the answer (I know mono, multifilament, and multifilament lead core qualify - is braid a multifilament?).

I thought if anyone had a chance this year it would be you as you had some real good, consistent size ...

Thanks for the post,

Ed

New World Record Fluke Caught
« Reply #27 on: August 18, 2007, 12:25:11 PM »
(MERGED)

A women bucktailed up a new world record fluke yesterday. The beast weighed in at #24.3 pounds and I believe was 38.25"s. caught in 55' of water (reportedly near the Shrewsbury Rocks) on a Spro bucktail with a stinger hook and a long squid strip.

Same woman caught a #18.1 weakfish last year.

Always knew it would be broken.... but always told people it would happen in the channels on big live as 15-18 lb fish are taken there every year now it seems.....

I recently purchased a do-it mold that makes jigs that are identical to a Spro.  Got it in the mail when I was away.  Made some today and painted them white.  Put white hair on them.  Now I see where a possible new record fish was taken on the same thing I was making.  Day late and a dollar short.  HEHE.  Oh well, sounds like she is a good fisherperson with some of the other catches she has made.  Good for her!

Better her (a real fisherperson) then some lucky stiff on a party boat with a rental rod who can't even spell fluke!

Mboy, I was thinking the exact same thing.  Better someone who had put in the time and effort to learn and enjoy the sport instead of someone who would find all of this meaningless.

How ironic that a woman caught it. I am not knocking her in any way but think of the amount of men fishing compared to women. Odds say it should of been a man that caught that fish. That fact, in itself,  may be the biggest compliment to her. Well done on a great catch.
