Braid or mono? What's everyone's thoughts?

Although I use braid I think mono is really the way to go. You don't need the braid no stretch benefit or thinner diameter benefit to get down deep with less weight. The main benefit I see with mono over braid for live lining (for stripers) is the stretch factor. It will give you a built in cushion for when the fish is trying to throw the hook. I feel the no stretch of braid will allow a hook to pull easier than mono would allow.

Braid with a mono leader gives you all the stretch you need....plus the better casting distance if snagging and dropping without having to run on top of the school

I've never tried LL'ing but it seems to me mono would be better.

How does everyone like to rig up? Egg sinker and treble or weighted treble?

Prefer mono BUT, love the visibility of yellow braid that tells me where the bunker is swimming, my vision sux.

I'd like to do a livelineing charter this spring.

I normaly used a heavy spinning rod to snag bunker in GK and then take them chunking but the LL thing looks like a blast.

You couldn't be any more correct with the yellow braid. I switched over to it for this year. I don't remember how many times, with the green braid, I've had to ask the guys if they knew where their bait was swimming...as it was swimming toward the prop. 

I'm thinking with the yellow braid they can follow their bait a whole lot easier.

I use mono on my conventional Reels for live lining it works better for my charters,most of the fish we catch in the ocean is without weight so mono is fine.I throw a cast net so we don't do much snagging.but there are days the fish want to eat only snag and drop this is where i use spinning reels with braid it just lets you snag bunker better no stretch.

I like to snip the bottom of the Bunkers tail off with scissors and one side fin. This makes it swim erratically and easier prey for a big lazy striper. Stripers can sense the panicked Bunker with there lateral lines and move in for a meal. I like to add some weight using a clip-on slider sinker, The bigger lazy stripers will be slightly behind the school and near the bottom waiting for the half eaten chunks that the bluefish have attacked to fall to the bottom. Everyone has a favorite spot to hook the bunker. Some guys prefer through the nose or through the bottom of the jaw or by the anus. I like to use an 8/0 or 9/0 circle hook and place it about an inch behind the dorsal fin. This allows the bunker to swim naturally. Stripers swallow bunker head first so the hook will be closer to the corner of its mouth when the resistance from your line is applied, and more of the hook is exposed to catch some flesh. I like to use a four foot mono or fluorocarbon leader tied to a swivel to the main line, you can put a slider sinker snap on the main line. I have had plenty of succesful days using this method.

 I like to use this unweighted 14/0 treble hook to snag the Bunker. It casts very far and works great, but it puts a nice hole in the Bunker and your fishing partners will give you some look when you pull this hook out of your tackle box.

Based on everyone's comments, I'm thinking I'll go with a Hi Vis mono main line, floro leader and a big unweighted treble on a spinninng outfit.
