Manhattan Cup Wounded Warriors Fishing Trip 05-18-2012
« on: May 19, 2012, 12:08:52 PM »
1st Mate Danny and I left SR Inlet at 0430 for our annual trek up to Chelsea Piers for the Manhattan Cup. Two throws of the net and we had 120 pieces of bait in the livewells. With calm seas we headed north and did a little pre-fish catching four bass before heading to NYC. Upon arrival we met our "Warrior" and that was an understatement. Fishing with us was US Army veteran, Jack "Jackie" Muddiman who served 4 combat tours in Iraq with 214th Infantry Division and came home with 2 purple hearts and the bronze star. Also on the boat was Rich Dunn from "On The Water" magazine and his cameraman Derrick Sprague. Leaving from the shadows of the new Freedom Tower we headed down the beach and managed to get our guys on some pretty good fishing. After a few blues we got on the bass and Jackie caught his first striper, a nice fat 27 pound fish. When the fishing slowed with the tide we went in and reloaded with fresh baits then got back on the bass and put 5 more fish in the boat. All of the fish were photographed, measured and released (circle hooks). We ran back to NYC dropped off the guys and after some food and drink headed down the beach to SR Inlet. Of course we stopped on the way and caught a few for ourselves. God Bless Our Troops!

 t^ Way to go
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

Got word a little while ago that our warrior Jackie won the top angler award for most striped bass caught. A 27 pounder and a tournament trophy not a bad first striper trip.

ps - I think I fixed the pictures
