Earle Pier Fishing Advice

Hey everyone, Army guy here who just got access to the Earle Navy Pier to go fishing. The two times I have been I have not had any luck catching anything. My fishing experience is purely fresh water fishing for Northerns, Walleye, Bass, etc... in the Midwest. Can any of you ladies or gentlemen lend advice on when (time to go; high tide/low tide/morning/night), what I should be using for bait (have used bunker, clams, and squid), and how I should be fishing (have been using weights on a steel liter letting rest near bottom).

Also, if anyone has fished on the pier where should I be fishing?

you'll have fluke all around the pier now. Squid strip on a 3 way rig slowly dragged across the bottom should do the trick. Try a spro bucktail tipped with gulp swimming mullet as an alternative, good offer at Dick's going on now

Welcome!!! Well, Cant go wrong with good ol Spro Bucktails...lil gulp or Killie on the end of that bad boy should do you well. I personally like a longer leader then most, lil shorter then my arms length, ( not good with measurements sorry  ) but to each their own. I also use a standard set up 2 way swiv, jiffy with long leader, 2/0 or 3/0 fluke hook if I'm not using the buck... 2 oz should be ok, but always have 3-4 oz on stand by in case you cant hold. I am under the impression that as US Military your going to be fishing from the pier.

Many years ago before 911 I fished that pier a few times in the fall.

I think you could try and throw some surface and swimming lures on top for blues and stripers.

There are openings in the deck where the pilings come through that you could try and fish the bottom with clam.

Also try the set ups posted and drag the bottom or bounce the jigs.
