photo identification help needed
« on: June 23, 2012, 10:58:22 AM »
I saw this picture on the NJsurfer beach cam last week about 8:25AM.  There cam does not stream anymore, only refreshes every 5 minutes, so I could not see more of what this was.  I think it could be a whale, but am not sure.  It was very close to shore as you can see.  I know with the great minds on this site some one will give me a definite answer.  clp

5hrug Not thinking whale "fin" looks to big compared to "head". Cant really tell, maybe Rod with the GoPro :headscra:
Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

It's a gull. I had to do a double take but it is definitely one of those "rats with wings"

It is definitely not a sea gull or any bird like that.  I have been watching that cam for years and can clearly tell a sea gull in the pics. Bottom right of attached pic has gulls on the beach and birds working in the ocean.  You have to compare the size of that object against the flag and box to tell it is something big.  I still think some type of breaching whale.
