Keeping frozen spearing on the hook

  Once frozen spearing thaw the are very soft. One small hit and they are gone. Any suggestions!!  clp

Use a needle sharp hook and go from the bottom of the mouth and through the top of the head.  Twist it, don't force it through.

If you are using two spearing, thread the first one on through the eyes and anchor it with the second one as I described above.

Even with that, a good tug by a fluke will take that spearing off in short order.  That's one reason why I like Gulp! ;D

Dont let em thaw completely.  Small dedicated bait cooler with ice goes a long way to get them to last longer.

What I like to do with some baits like that.....Is make up a rig just like a mullet rig..... Take a thin wire and bend around a small nail to form an eye.....Then do the same to the other end.

Thread the wire from the mouth through the tail......Place the wire hook through the tail end......sounds hard but works great with soft baits like this.
The areas I fish are the ones you said where a wast of time

We used to use these rigs for spearing all the time.  Worked great for snappers in the River.
