« on: August 30, 2007, 12:58:29 AM »
Im heading to IBSP Sunday and was wondering if anyone was having any luck down there lately? Most likely me and my dad will be targeting flounder and some blues. Any info is appreciated.

Hi Chris,

I haven't been out there recently but this time of year you could catch just about anything.  The fluke are just starting their move out of the bays and estuaries toward open waters so the inlet is a good choice for them right now.

The same goes for the weakfish.  Lastr week I saw a number of them pulled out off the north jetty.  I have heard that there were divers our a couple of weeks ago and they reported numbers of stripers off the jetty's point but can't confirm that.

There is a lot of bait in the wash so long casts are not the norm this time of year.  fly fishing is at its best under those conditions.

Ii haven't heard of to many blues caught lately off the surf but I'm sure they are around as long as the bait lingers.

Bait of choice lately has been clams, squid, and red and white poppers.

I hope this helps

Happy Catching

Hi Chris,

I have heard of some bluefish blitzes around the pocket.

Also, fluke and croakers are now in the surf. Clam is working best for croakers.

A trusted source fished Gillikens and near the jetty and caught short stripers and weakies.

Good luck,

Capt. Ed

Are the croakers being caught in any surf at the park?

Hi Mr. Penguin,

I haven't heard of any caught off IBSP as of yet.  But then I have not been out this week.

I am sure they are around because they were catching small ones south of the park so I would think by now they have filtered north.

I am looking forward to hitting the suds this weekend my self. Not sure what day but because of the long weekend it probably will be Monday.

The beach should start to clear out by then and the rest of the season is ours.  No more crowds to contend with.

I road by a few  piers yesterday and they all were loaded.  Parking was at a premium at the North piers in SSP as well as the South pier also in SSP.

Be patient and the Croakers will be here soon.

Happy Catching
