7/14
« on: July 15, 2012, 09:47:11 AM »
Launched out of  Keansburg at 4:00 am. Rounded the hook and set a course of 149 and ran aprox. 35 miles to monster ledge to attempt to troll for tuna. Trolled for hours with no luck. Ran into a fleet of party boats around 11:00 am. At this point I am guessing that this is the area refered to as the mud hole and that they were fishing for blues.
Ran back toward land and started marking bait(?) with larger marks in the mix so I put out a couple of stretches. A short time later we notice some fins breaking the surface so I toss a jig into the mix and imedeatly hook into a small blue. I had the blue within 25 foot of the boat and 6 foot shark makes a pass at it cfzd. Now the rod on the starboard side starts screaming, my buddy gets on it, and he is in a battle. Seconds later the port rod starts sounding off and I still have the blue on so this starts being like a chinese fire drill seeing as how its just the two of us. I horse in the blue and swing it into the boat, grab the port rod and the drag is screaming and both of outrods are 50lb setups.
After about 10 minutes we had two sharks boatside. Releasing the first aws not so bad as it was foul hooked under the jaw but the second had both trebles in its mouth and I only had a pair if pliers. ??? ( Note to self, find a better dehooker for situations like this )
After releasing both sharks we happened on a spot where we jigged up a dozen sea bass so we did not go hame empty handed ;D.

Not sure what kind of shark they were. I started looking them up whe I got back but i haven't found the right link yet. They were decent size though 4 and 5 foot. a little to big to be unhooking with pliers.

Very cool.  We had a nice size shark come up through our spread on Saturday, but he didn't take anything.  Would have been nice to put on of them beasts boatside.
