7/23/12 Brown Sharks BI INLET
« on: July 23, 2012, 11:23:38 AM »
Left the dock with Kris aka Leckbass around 7 am. Headed out of Barnegat Inlet into a massive swell. Pushed through and went south less than a mile and less than a mile off the beach. ( water was much calmer ) Kept it close. Right outside the inlet I saw a shark breaking water. When I approached it, the shark disappeared.  After we figured out our drift we started grindin and chummin. ( blues, eels, fluke and tile fish carcasses.) Had 5 gallons of grinded bunks marinating in chum bucket. Had a pretty juicy slick going.
First shark took a little over an hour. Ended up putting 3 in the boat. ( missed a few hookups and one broke the liter)Our biggest was probably in the 60 pound range. Nice fight. Tail wrapped it, took the hook out and released to catch next time.

Headed back in around noon to do some work on the boat.

Be back @ it next sunday.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.

we saw lots of sharks that day, they came up into the slick, but then disappeared.  I think next time we go out we'll have one rod on the boat ready to cast to cruiser sharks.

They are considered threatened.  So catch and release only.
