huge stargazer
« on: July 29, 2012, 10:13:08 PM »
while fluking off the beach i though i was snagged on something it felt like dead weight but was moving i pulled it out and it turned out to be a huge northern stargazer. when i was holding it by the leader it broke the 15 lb test line. i think it was at least 12-15 pounds. i didnt have a camera unfortunately.does anybody know the current state or world record stargazer i heard 13 pounds but im not sure.

Best way to calm them down while unhooking them is to rub them right between the eyes.  >:D

Seriously thats a big gazer.  Shoulda kept him. I hear they are good to eat

The IGFA All-Tackle record for a Northern Stargazer is 10 lbs .12 ounces caught by John Jacobsen 06/20/1998 in Cape May NJ.  t^.  Looks like you should have had that fish weighed at a certified tackle shop and your name would be in the book.

Go back and catch it again ;D

Looks like 8-9 lbs. maybe?   5hrug

And if you're not familiar with a Stargazer, DO NOT rub him between the eyes to calm him down.  Funny joke though, as long as the person knows what'll happen.
