Phyllis Ann YFT 8-4
« on: August 04, 2012, 09:25:37 PM »
Today was another Bluefun Tuna Run for the BBC.. With Bucktail Bob.. Jason AKA Surf Jockey, and Special Guest Eddie Hunter 2 t^

Left the dock at first light to a nice smooth bay..
High tailed it to the inlet, pointed the Phyllis Ann East and off we went..  First stop.. Nothing.. No life..  Headed another 8 Miles out to what seemed to be promising..  Time to Jig..

Started Jigging.. and Bob Also dropped a Dead Sticked 4X RonZ down about 50 Feet.. Don't think it was 10 Minutes until that rod took a dive and started peeling line..  Eddie Crabs the Rod.. and Game On t^  This fish was a Fighter.. 3 Runoffs at the boat.. 2 missed gaffs by yours truly.. fcp and she finally made it to the deck.. " TUNA IN DA BOAT" a 45" Yellowfin t^

Jason took some GREAT Under Water Footage of the fish and her run offs.. But.. Once again.. A mishap.  camera wasn't recording fcp  My Fault.. although the deck Camera was. t^

A little later.. Fish Under the boat!!..  I run out to the Ronz.. give it a couple twitches.. feel a bite.. and set the hook with a Sagosa 10000 on a short jigging rod. After the first run and my back breaking. I felt a head.. This wasn't a Tuna... But a good 8' Long Brown Spinner Shark..  Got him to the boat 4 times to only be taken back down..  We wanted the RonZ Back.. tried pulling it with the gaff.. but it just wasn't happening.. 5th time.. I lifted his head and raked his teeth.. and Pop went the line t^

Tried passing the rod off . but everyone was chicken ;D

This we got some great under water footage t^

Another what I call a good day for the Phyllis Ann Crew..  Another Tuna Cherry Popped.. As Jason would say.. 3 FER 3

The Guys also have some great Pics..  More to come including Video

Eddies YFT.. watch The Rod On The Right..

Understand.. we are trying to get my 20$ Ronz Lure Back ;D

A YFT on the BFT hunt....how short of the "edge" were ya? Not looking for specifics, just wondering how far the yellow boys ventured inshore?

Well I finally got to wear some tuna war paint and sit in a deck chair too. The yellowfin tuna fought hard and made a few runs. The entire crew worked like a well oiled machine giving some instruction, moving and clearing rods, and even taking video. It was a great experience. The shark was a thrill in its own and Rod fought long and hard to try and retrieve the Ronz lure from its mouth. In know some great video was taken during that battle too. Bob and Jason made several attempts to free the lure. TT^  We also had a trigger fish lurking under the boat for awhile.
I want to thank Rod and Bob and Jason for the jigging lessons and memorable fun day with great guys and . chrz

Another fine BBC trip on the Phyllis Ann. t^  Great to get out with special guest star, Eddie. ;)   Only one fish on the clicker today, but it was a good one, as it was great to see Eddie get his first tuna in the boat! clp

That Star Plasma and Shimano Torium was a perfect combo for Eddie to land it on. t^

The brown shark was a fun surprise as well.  Rod will have to edit the video a bit, as I was following him all over the boat with the gaff in an effort to try to get the $25 RONZ back! rofla

I only have a couple of pics on my camera.  Mostly of Rod's struggle with Jaws. ;D

Fun trip! t^

Ha ha!   whs  I jigged one up last year.  When it first hit the deck we thought it was a yellowfin.  But, since we hadn't landed one before, we weren't sure so back it went.  After reviewing the video footage we determined that it definitely was a YFT, and we could have kept it. fcp ;D

Great Job, love to hear those stories of hook ups on the dead stick. Sometimes the RONZ likes to work alone and show us how it's done clp
