8/23 SRR Blues
« on: August 23, 2012, 11:04:02 PM »
Hit the SRR with Adam. Wasn't long before being yelled at for running through a slick - 300' from a PB w/fish @ 80'. Really?? Anyway paid the NY'rs no mind and looked for our own spot on the south side of the fleet. Couldn't really get hooked-up well but tried chumming anyway. With no bites and the head boats going in it was time for a move but, we couldn't! Got the anchor to about 40' and could see a lobster pot hanging from it. After about 30 min and a lot of umpf we managed to free ourselves.

We found a nice lump, anchored and set out the slick. It was good action for the rest of the day. We boated about 18 nice blues and hand some tuna-esq action in the slick. Really irradecent blue fish - assuming albies?? Tried throwing a bucktail but no luck. But just a hook/bunker on the mono and hand had a hit! Did I mention this was a little ugly stick that I fish w/in the river for fluke?? 12# test I think. Broke the line about 3 min into it. Tried it again and bam! 10 min later a 10# demon. Damn! What a fight though.

All in all it was a good trip. The water was blue as can be. Well, boat/rods are rigged for the morning trip. Will be up at 0300.

Have a good night. Sorry for typos - damn phone.

Fred, fishing the "Kristy Marie" from Manasquan River Club. Channels 16/67/68.

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.
