I was a bit surprized by the windy conditions this morning, change my plans of fishing the ocean and headed up CH Channel hoping to get out of the wind. First drop by West Bank woke up a nice fluke that I lost as I was reaching for the net. Looked like I was off to a good start but a few more drifts in the same area only yielded a couple of 17" shorts and a few robins. Moved over to the bend in Ambrose where I managed 2 18" fish that went back. Blues hit my jigs on the way up, lost 2. Made another move closer to Coney Island, three drifts yielded 3 more shorts. Wind was starting to ease up so I headed back to CH and made one long drift all the way to Romer. Managed to pick at shorts the entire way. I did manage one 20.5" fish that I kept out of 20 shorts. Bait did better today than the jigs. I was using killies/Squid and large spearing. Had a US Navy Airship pass right over head, did not know they were using then again.
Going to try the ocean tomorrow...
