Finally got out after a few weeks of R & R & no F. Wasn't sure if Ya Sista's A$$ was gonna start after sitting for that long, but she's a fine scow ARRRRR and off we go.
Tombo and Cooch made the run with me; Rockstar Eddie had (what else) rock-n-rolling to prep for later, so he begged off. Lines off at 0615 and headed for the single candlestick. Couple throwback flatties, and with some LRs, doggies, and even CBasseziz mixed in, we had the C&R thing thumpin'. Quite a few guys anchored up near Romer, did not see any fish boated.
The cloud bank pushed east, the sun came out, and it was really nice out there. We figured since we were almost there anyway, head to the Tin Can Grounds. Couple more drifts in the Ambrose vicinity and a couple more short fluke to not show for it, and of course more assorted garbagefish. Just missed the GBFish trifecta as we could not boat the skate to pull it out.
Highlight of the day had to be spotting what we thought was a large gnarly old piece of lumber floating near Ambrose in 70' then realizing it was a large gnarly old sea turtle sunning himself (herself?) on the surface. That puppy was mucho mondo, his neck looked like it was a foot or more in diameter, got to within about 30yds of us, then he submerged- just before Cooch could rig up the 50W to try to bait him with a whole LR (kidding.)
All in all, a good time was had by all. We missed the keepers, the Blue Rock NFL BBQ, and my curfew too, as we didn't get back to the dock til after noon. Hopefully Christine gets over it soon....
