Talked To Joe on the phone earlier today. You could hear the excitement in his voice like he was a little kid again. He spoke that the conditions were rough. He started with using bunker chunks, but because of the rough surf they wouldn't stay on the hook.

Tide was high and he was getting pretty beat up. After he ran out of bunker, he was thinking about packing it up but decided since he had some clam from earlier days, when he was trying for king fish, to use it up because it wasn't going to last much longer. After a few casts the rod doubled over.
The fish almost immediately breached. He could tell it was a striper, but had no idea of its size. when I asked him how long it took to land the fish? he answered" It could have bean 5 hours or 10 minutes. I cant remember how long it took. You get so caught up in the moment, there is no time." Took several tries to get the fish on the beach due to the heavy surf. When he did go to grab it he literally put his hand all the way through from the gill side and almost came out its mouth, that's when he first realized its true size.

Congrats Joe. You will be chasing this one for many years to come. forgot to ask about what combo of rod, real and line he was using.

Awesome!  I looked all over for contact info for Joe, but no luck this time.  Should have guessed he was already networked here ;D.

great catch.. I tried the beach yesterday afternoon.. Its been a while since I surf fished and boy, do I hate it.. lol..

10 oz couldn't hold bottom good enough as the current kept taking it back to the beach.  Cut my fingers trying to cast that weight.  It was also boring.. Maybe Ill try again, but boating is the way to go for me.
