18 to 20 miles.  You can fish it all year depending on the species targeted.  SeaBass, Bluefish, Mackeral, BFT's, Shark

Hunter has it right mileage wise. As for as what you can fish for...most everything that roams NJ waters.

And don't forget the Shark River reef boarders the west side of the hole. Great bottom fishing there with all the structure.  t^

The guys are right. SRR is great for falsie and bluefish action late in the summer. Schoolie BFT if and when they show up can be found in the mudhole as well. There are plenty of lobster pots for the entire length that can hold mahi mahi and BFT in the area. Just a little further South is Monster Ledge which is also a good spot.

I fish from MI as well. If you ever want to buddy up let me know. 2 people can cover more ground than 1!

People fish the mudhole all year. It depends on what you're looking to catch. This time of year isn't good for smaller pleasure craft. You really need a larger boat as the weather is unpredictable.

Good deal. It can be very fun out there. Not sure what you're really looking for but, don't discount inshore fishing. Not all the big fish are out that far. I will have my boat in the water in late April or March. Where do you keep yours?
