Looking for a Washing Machine Repairman
« on: March 14, 2013, 11:04:51 AM »
I've seen too many "Caught On Camera" shows with shady repairmen charging crazy prices for things that aren't even broken. nts

Can any of you recommend someone that's honest and will charge a fair price?

Yeah Bob, what's wrong with it. Sometimes the repair can be more costly than a new machine.

Maybe something for a do-it-yourselfer? If so, maybe a mechanically inclined friend can do it for a six-pack.  5hrug

I can tell you about a repairman I would NOT recommend. Guy canceled first time on me after I scheduled work around the appointment then when he did show up he charged me an arm and a leg. The kicker? He "forgot" to put the drain hose in its receptacle so the first load we ran ended up flooding all over the place.  rgmn

No power. (Even after I plugged it in)  ;D
I looked on the schematic for a fuse or something like that but didn't find one.  I'm thinking it might need a new circuit board.  :-\

Can we assume that you checked your circuit breaker at the box?  ;D

Yes. Apparently the circuit breaker is good.

My problem is, the big, metal box on top that makes things hot, dry and fluffy works.  But the other big, metal box on the bottom that makes things wet and soapy doesn't.     ;D

Kenny, not quite as fancy as that one.    ;D

Al, it's a Samsung WF218ANW/XAA.  And they are separate.

1st thing I would do is check the owners manual and make sure the unit is not in the lock mode...

These models have a way to disable the washer ( kid proofing )   that can be turned on and off...
I had a customer that locked the unit with out knowing it....I pressed a couple of buttons and the unit came back to life...

This is from the Samsung site:

Save time with convenient, easy-to-use machine
The easy-to-see control panel with preset cycles and preprogrammed features makes this machine a breeze to operate. Includes a child lock to keep curious children safe, is quiet and durable, with a motor that functions without belts or gears, and it has a delay-start button for more convenience.

Child lock
A function that prevents children from playing with your washer.

ACTIVATING/DEACTIVATING

If you want to activate/deactivate the Child Lock function, press the Soil Level and Signal
buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.

How It Works:

1. “Child Lock” can be activated while your Washer is running.

2. Once you activate “Child Lock”, all controls (except for the Power button) will be locked
until you deactivate “Child Lock”.

3. The Child Lock button will be lit while it is in effect.

When buttons, other than the Power button, do not respond, please check if the “Child
Lock” function is on.

Second, Make sure it's not in the delay mode..this model you can delay the wash cycle up to 19 hrs....
