The week will start off wet with rain, a wintry mix and snow across the state. By Tuesday afternoon, precipitation chances will decrease and will move out completely by Tuesday Night. Wednesday Day will brings a low chance of showers. The remainder of the week will be dry, with mostly sunny skies. Temperatures on Monday will be in the low 40's and lows into the upper 30's. The rest of the week temperatures will be slightly below normal, with highs in the 40's and lows in upper 20's. Water conditions will vary by location, however most waters will be cautious to dangerous this week. Small Craft Advisories are likely through the week, especially areas south of Barnegat Inlet and midshore to offshore. Gale Warnings and Gale Force Winds are possible Tuesday through Wednesday, with winds peaking Tuesday Night. Seas will peak around 5 feet inshore with 7-8 feet midshore to offshore. Monday surf conditions will be moderate with 1-2 and 3-4 foot waves with gustier winds. Tuesday Surf conditions will be elevated with 4-5 foot waves, rough surf conditions and gusty winds. Wednesday through Friday will see a return of normal surf conditions with 0-2 foot waves.
The precipitation will begin overnight tonight into early Monday Morning. Precipitation will continue through Tuesday Afternoon before clearing out for Tuesday Night. Areas throughout the state will see a wintry mix or snow, changing over to rain in eastern counties first and then in southwestern, central western through central northern counties. Areas in northern NJ could see 1-2 inches and 2-4 inches of snow accumulation as well as a 1/4 inch of ice accumulation. Winter Weather Advisories have already been posted for Sussex, Warren and Morris Counties with Winter Storm Watches and Warnings issued for neighboring PA and NY.
High pressure centered over the Great Lakes will build into New England through Monday Morning. Low pressure moving eastward from the western Great Lakes will spawn a new area of low pressure over the DELMARVA early on Tuesday. This low will move north and merge with the low that was over the Great Lakes. The merged systems will then exit New England Wednesday and drift into the Canadian Maritimes Thursday and Friday.
