That's an awfully big boat to lose in the bay. Hope there's hope for a positive outcome.

I think they have that picture wrong. I think he was out in the ocean off of 39th St in Ocean City.

I was under the impression that the EPIRB would make locating the vessel in distress/survivors very easy? Unless of course the vessel has sunk, but would still think that the search area would be defined, so floating debris, people could be found.  :headscra:

That's pretty much it Darren. It does seem that the vessel probably went under, thus the deployment of the epirb and the life raft. It was the 'cork' type raft, not an inflatable and probably just floated off the vessel as the vessel went under. It would be hard to miss a vessel that size floating on the water. The first helo reportedly was on scene within seven minute of the epirb alert.

I am wondering if this was caused by a partially submerged item from Sandy that the vessel may have struck.  5hrug

Thats why Im a bit skeptical of the self deploying EPIRBS.  I think I would rather have it in the ditchbag that would stay with me and crew. :headscra:

While researching Epirbs ( I'm in the market for one) I read that it could take up to 1 hour to acquire satellite communication to find position and send out an SOS. By then it could be too late, but better to send for help than not at all.

I'm with Joe on the possible collision with submerged storm debris theory.

Where is the update to this article? By reading I assume he has been confirmed lost?

Fred, nothing confirmed. The last update I read was that the CG suspended their search.
