4/28 Hunter 2, Raritan Bay Stipers
« on: April 28, 2013, 09:32:12 PM »
Late start today after Coach Scotts Baseball team photo day. We pulled out of Keyport with Scott G and Jersey Joe at 11:45am at the start of the outgoing tide. The wind was blowing good from S/SW creating a small chop. The sky was slightely overcast.
We made a quick run off keansberg and circled around a bit, Lots of boats around looked like not much happening and they were waiting for the tide to start moving. I pulled out of there and made a move towards union beach in the 18' to 20' range by a small dropoff and dropped anchor to test the waters and wack some clams. We hung around for 30 mins without much action.
We decided to head over to our usual spot in shallower water and it was game on instantely. t^
The 3 of us caught around 25 stripers in 3 1/2 hours on clams. Scott and I tossed out some Mikes plugs to experiment alittle but had no bites.
A couple of Skates showed up too :P. We boated some pretty small Stripers and also some big 20+lb fattys full of eggs that were released in good shape to go spawn.
Back at the barn by 4:30 for cleanup. We kept five of the keepers for the the table and released all the others. I should be getting out during the week after work for some quick trips.
Good luck everyone and be safe. There is still some debris floating around. t^

Nice Job, did you start hookin up early afternoon? That's when we had to pull in, even though that's when we thought the bite was just going to get better throughout the tide...

Yeah, it was around 1:15 or so when we reached our target spot and the outgoing tide started moving strong. The wind really picked up and was blowing right out off the beach.
