Opening Day Fluke
« on: May 19, 2013, 10:55:17 AM »
Since getting kicked off the water due to Hurricane Sandy months ago, I jumped at the opportunity to launch a 19ft.c/c and fish opening day fluke. His boat my truck and off we go.Every thing went smooth till we hit the ramp and see two other guys ON THE RAMP one with the outdrive off and the other with a broken axle!!! OMG what do these people do to prepare for boating/fishing season?  I know $h## happens to all of us so I offered our help.Past those issues, the rest of the day was sweet. We worked the back bay landing 14 fish of which 5 where well over the 18-20 inch mark and placed into the cooler..These fish where fat and cold and showed some mud markings. The wind was Southerly with rain and clouds all day.The water temp was still cold and below ideal fluke bathing temps. Noticed maybe a total of 25 boats all day which is definitely  far less than normal.Bucktailing was not productive, however bait produced;those fish we released where in excellent shape. The bite was not very aggressive but the fight in the fish extremely respectful. A good sign for the coming months.Did not notice any debris on the water.Thank God I was able to get out,now if they would complete work at the Marina,I could do this more often.Good Luck.

Sounds like a good start to your season no doubt!  t^ I agree, for opening season I would have thought there'd be a few more boats, but I think the weather and the water temp discouraged most.
