Hunter 2, Sunday 5-19 Raritan Bay
« on: May 20, 2013, 06:10:25 AM »
Scott and I pulled out of Keyport at 8:30am with trolling gear and clams. It was blowing Steady E.SE  pushing the waves towards the upper bay. Dead low tide was 9:30am So we trolled the slack tide from 11A towards the 8 buoy and more inshore towards the Belford flats. Quite a few Charter boats were anchored in the area and we did not see any action on any of them. I saw some party boats over on Flynns knoll but the wind and waves along with the cold damp air convinced me not to make the 4 mile trip further from port. We boated 2 Bluefish trolling. One on a Maja spoon and the other on a tournament cable umbrella rig with stretch 30. The tournament cable rig is Really nice and so simple to deploy and retrieve. t^
The incoming tide started to move good and the wind was blowing hard so we head closer to port and set up for clamming in 10' of water. After 1 1/2 hrs with nothing to show for it we called it a day and head in for a nice afternoon party with friends and our families.
Hopefully the Stripers will turn on again but we do have plenty of other options now. t^

I'm happy you made it out Sunday. It was rainy and cold...to much for my taste. I kept looking out to see if it would break but it never really did. Keep at um Eddie. As I say, if anyone will land um it'll be you. Nice fish Scott!   t^ clp

Very few made it out Sunday Ed. Nice report and good to see you gave it a good shot. Once this weather passes and water temps change things will start happening again. Way to go.
