I tie the uni-to-uni for backing. I also never plan on seeing the backing as I put just enough mono to cover the spool and as much braid as possbile.
For the braid to leader connection, the uni-to-uni works but a bit bulky. The Alberto or modified Albright is good and was my favorite. Now I'm luv'n the bimini twist in the braid to make a loop and then the Yucatan for the actually connection.
Bimini twist is quite easy to tie with a little practice. Also, make the loop/doubled line just about 12" or so...makes it alot easier to tie and that's all you need for the connection. Knot is very strong and compact.
