I tie the uni-to-uni for backing.  I also never plan on seeing the backing as I put just enough mono to cover the spool and as much braid as possbile.

For the braid to leader connection, the uni-to-uni works but a bit bulky.  The Alberto or modified Albright is good and was my favorite.  Now I'm luv'n the bimini twist in the braid to make a loop and then the Yucatan for the actually connection. t^

Bimini twist is quite easy to tie with a little practice.  Also, make the loop/doubled line just about 12" or so...makes it alot easier to tie and that's all you need for the connection.  Knot is very strong and compact.

whs---But I'll use a Spider Hitch Knot instead of a Bimini Twist to from the double line. I've tried countless times to tie a proper Bimini and haven't done it right yet.

What about a blood knot?

Never had much luck getting the blood to hold on a braid connection..I prefer the double (back-to-back) uni when diameters are similar, and the Albright when the mono is of greater diameter..

Double-strand blood knots will hold in braid.

Spider hitch will work, but bimini twist is stronger.  Skol, gotta show ya, it's quite easy once you see it.
