BAIT for Ling
« on: September 27, 2007, 11:07:21 PM »
I might be going to the Mud Hole for Bluefish and Seabass...  I know that Ling are also out there.  What is the bait of choice for them.  I want to make sure I am prepared.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.

Hareball always seems to get those ugly looking suckers on squid or clam, when we are seabassing and sometimes fluking. The are ugly but taste pretty good. Some baits of choice are mullet, peanuts, or pinfish.

not too bad, its good when other species feast on the same bait..  Especially peanut bunker, since they are all over da place.

Nick,
I have always had good luck with the bergall strips as well. Holds up real well on the hook, esp. when some of the smaller bait stealers are around. Good luck and looking forward to the report!
Tight lines, Brian

Clam.  That'll catch some bergalls too and as mentioned, fillet to make strip baits.

Crabs too.  Overall, have caught my larger ling on greenies.
