terrible day fishing today 9/29
« on: September 29, 2007, 05:08:35 PM »
Left the dock at 8am with four aboard.  Lou, Ron, Bob and myself.  Went to the red church as planned.  Made over a dozen drifts looking for the sweet spot for the seabass and porgies.  Only managed two very, very small (a little bigger than the ten ounce sinkers we had to use) seabass.  They, of course, went back to the ocean nursery to grow up.

Put out some trolling gear and headed north to the Shrewsbury Rocks.  Got to the rocks without a single knockdown.  Found a fleet of party and charter boats drifting the northern most section of the rocks.  Did not see a fish caught.  We didn't catch anything either.  Was fishing both bottom for seabass and jigging for blues.  NOTHING.

Went back on the troll.  Trolled a small structure near the inside buoy at the rocks.  Got a twelve pound blue fish on a chartreuse stretch 30.  Trolled the area a bit longer with no other hits.  Trolled back toward the red church.  Found a ton of birds working some bait.  Trolled the outskirts...NOTHING.  Stopped and drifted into the birds.  Had all small (barely past snapper size) bluefish following our metal.  Ron had one hook up and released it unharmed.  Two other boats showed up and they got the skunk too.

Picked up and ran back to the dock.  Boat cleaned, one blue fish cleaned, ready for another try tomorrow.

i got to the dock, decided not to go due to the blow...  hung out and watched the party boats leave and also watched monster bluefish come into the boat slips.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.

Well you will have that!!!

Great effort anyway!

Beats sitting at home, rather be on the water.

Good job Capt.

Same story I've been hearing all over for almost two weeks. The short Fluke season has everyone scratching their ... heads, wondering what to do now. Hope the Bass / Blues bring it to us soon. I'm hitting the beach sunday to see what happens, got to have a line in the water to catch'em. Good Luck. <'((((><
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><

w0w Tough day Joe, everyday can't be a banner day! I will be on the water tomorrow. I will give you a shout when I break the inlet. t^ Hopefully things will lay down a bit and we can hit some deep water wrecks. Oh and By the way I did call your cell phone last weekend when I did my solo trip TT^

Yep, real tuff day today.
Sorry I missed your call last week Skip.  I do remember having a missed call from you and a message.  I think I was at the mud hole when you called and didn't actually get the call till we got back closer to shore.  Hard to pick up a cell tower that far out.  Good luck tomorrow.  It is supposed to be a bit better weather wise.
See ya on the water.
