7/7 ACR and SGR
« on: July 08, 2013, 01:19:36 PM »
Sunday was originally going to be a shark day but, you know how the weather has been..... I figured I'd use Sunday to powerwash the boat and do some other tinkering after my PM shift. Well I had a change of plans when my nephew said he and a friend were intersted in fishing.

Knowing the S wind was going to kick up I warned them that it might not be the greatest of days but I'd give it a shot. We planned on meeting at 0800. Got to the boat at 0800. Opened the dogbox to check the oil and found oil colored water the bilge. Dipstic was low.... On the last trip the oil was full. I made some calls and looked at some likely suspects. A few of the oil pans were somewhat loose which may have let the oil drain after being run last time. I tightened them, added oil, and fired her up. We had great oil pressure and no visible leaks. Off we went.

First stop was the ACR. Made a few drifts and picked up a couple of nice sea bass and skates. I figured we'd head over and check out the SGR. At this time the winds really were picking up so, I knew the drifing might not work out so well. (I still need to get a drift sock  rgmn). Headed over and my nephews friend was sheet WHITE with the growing swell. The drift was way too fast to hold bottom so we called it a day.

I saw Capt Joe and the Irish Ayes crew and honked and waved. I'm sure he had no idea who it was tho.

During the trip we had no oil issues. Checked it multiple times. Came back, still managed to pressure wash the boat and bilge and oil was still full. If it's out again when I get there next I will need to start looking at a rusty pan or shot timing belt cover.

Like the saying goes..... It still be working!

Great effort Fred.

Sorry, I didn't see anyone waving or nor did I hear a horn. You should have motored over and gave us a shout out. Nah, maybe not, I had a dozen water balloons on board and would have bombed ya with em.  ;D

We didn't do a whole lot of catching at the reef either. A few keeper fluke, some sea bass and a dozen whiting. :P

Oops, typo. Should be half a dozen. Gotta keep the reports honest. My bad. Must of still had the dozen water balloons on my mind.  ;D. Still, it's good to have ANY amount of whiting.  t^

I didn't want to crowd you guys. When I first pulled up to the reef one of the many on your boat was pulling in a fish. At first I thought it was a raft from Cuba with all the people on board. lol
