Last week was the annual Bailey pilgrimage down to Surf City LBI for a week of vacation.
Surf fishing was really slow (almost non existant) but we gave it our best every day we were out.....and saw some of the best sunrises in recent memories...
Figured since i was down, i wanted to charter a boat and get the kids (Madison and Jay 13yrold twins) out on the water.
We went out with Capt Brett Taylor of Reel Reaction Sportfishing, on his beautiful 23ft Parker. Ocean temps were great, and the bite was good as well. We ended the day with 4 keeper fluke (all in the 22 to 24" range) and 9 or 10 keeper Seabass (one was 19" Way to go Madison!!!)Jay had the biggest fluke at 24" and a few ounces short of 6lbs) All the keepers were in the 4 to 5lb range.
We also had a bunch of throwbacks, but they all seemed to be around 17" but it got the kids lines tight, and there were smiles all around......Bait of choice were peanuts and squid for the kids....I bucktailed the entire time with a SeaRobin colored bucktail with a makeral strip, or squid.... We had a great time, and the kids had an absolute blast on the boat!! Was nice to see the kids retain what Capt Carl taught them when we were out with him, that its always a good idea to keep the bait moving....Looks like it worked Carl
and the capt remarked that it was nice having kids out that really new what they were doing.
We had a little pool on the boat going, which was the person that caught the biggest fish could pick a chore for the other 2 to complete for the top hooker.......Needless to say with Jay catching the biggest Fluke, and Madi catching the biggest seabass......My day today will be spent cleaning Jays room....and washing Madisons Bike......little turds
Shameless plug for the best fishing site on the web
