Fluking for Big DRUM
« on: August 10, 2013, 07:41:23 PM »
went out this morning on my dads buddies boat out of leanardo. Got around the tip did a couple of drifts off the beach we got one short. Moved over to a couple of humps and a wreck south of the hook. Started working the piece no luck. I got bored and started casting up drift and bucktailing back to the boat. Bam i hook up with something big. I am was like oh crap big fluke. Than my line started screaming out for longer than i liked so my dads buddy started up the boat and we started chasing this fish. Coudlnt gain any line was basically just following the fish trying to tire it out. They kept saying that it was probably a big cow nose ray but the way it was fighting i wasnt so sure. finally get straight up and down. Mind you i have my medium light conventional fluking rod with 20lb braid. was fighting it started to gain line when finallay a huge drum comes the the surface. We estimated it between 60 and 70 lb. After that excitement started fluking never really got a good bite going. I dead sticked my rod while helping to rig my buddies son i hooked up and caught a 7lb fluke 28inch. Thats what i call a exciting day of fishing
Why can't we fish 5 days a week and work 2!
