I was kinda thinking the same thing Darren..

The top 6 guys get a free 6 pack trip and the winner gets bragging rights for the year on the site...

Was this being planned as an NJSWF.COM event, or was the  original plan an outside the site thing? Also, before I vote on attending, I would need to know the final details, because 80 guys on one boat and I'm out

keep it at 40max on one boat; and make it a combined biggest 2 (or 3) fish format to weed out the "flukes"

I like the qualifier trip idea, with the 6 best advancing to the playoff. In this way the $25pp covers the 6pack trip and the grand prize.

I also like the food Trish brings.

You'd have to change the name if I participated-- "Champion" is not an adjective I'd use when describing my fluking prowess.... Tournament of Hackers would be good for me.

Here's an idea..

Do the party boat thing...a charter with maybe 35 45 guys/gals depending on the size of the boat picked....( don't try to jamb 80 people on one boat   nosmly) take the 6 biggest fish and have those 6 winners duke it out on a 6 pack charter for a winner take all Championship...

The party boat would be a qualifier for the final shoot out with the 6 going head to head...

Just a thought...

Another great idea...I like it. Questions, are entrants paying for charter? Sponsors?
I'm still looking for Sponsors to be involved with this. While in the infancy of putting it together, lots of room for publicity, packaging the program/concept, etc....

This concept stemmed from a conversation between a bunch of guys fishing on a party boat(though I sponsor on this board and sponsors here wish to support, I am open to it) and as something I wanted to get behind as a business sponsor with additional businesses. Looking to create a smaller scale fun fishing event for "Joe Angler" who wanted to get into a competition/tournament and have some nice prizes to award in the end. Hoping there will be enough interest to put it all together and maybe make it an annual event. Some great ideas already in the making......

If we were to use the $25 entry fee from the original trip, that's leaving $1000 at 40 guys. There's going to be a tip needed for the original trip unless it's collected up front with the fare, the six pack charter would be in the $700 range, doesn't leave a lot for a grand prize.....trying to keep fees low for entry but could raise to $50 elevate the final payout.. If sponsors were to support the 6pack trip it would still be feasible...

The top 6 win a 6 pack trip, the big winner gets a trophy and cyberspace bragging rights. Sponsors can also be advertised on the trophy. The original " fare plus $25" plan works, tips for the mates on the first boat should be as per the usual party boat protocol, on a per angler experience tip. The tip for the 6 pack would be covered in the $1000.  Maybe, the " Sponsors" could also throw in a few bucks on top of their product donations to sweeten the pot, hey its good publicity right, or they would not be in it from the start. Its kind of tough to have the anglers foot the bill for everything execpt a few prizes, and have it all work out. If its about the angler having a big pay day, and the sponsors don't want to part with anymore cash  and the party boat won't work with you on the fare, hit up the anglers again for a Calcutta. Then again, a trophy and bragging rights seems to work for most people. There are plenty of other tournaments that pay cash throughout the season if its about money.

I like ca$$h- have the qualifier pay for all prizes. Sponsors would only sweeten the deal. Not sure how the sponsor angle would work exactly ie what do we have to offer them for their sponsorship but that's for you to figure out.

All the ideas that are being thrown around are great! t^ Including the tip is big! This, in my opinion, ensures the mates get what they deserve.  ;D Please let me know what I can bring to the table.(aside from Breakfast and Lunch LOL ya'll know I got that!) I am certainly IN!!!

Having the opportunity to try to make the cut and be one of the six top anglers on a free charter trip to determine a winner should be compensation enough for all.

A trophy and bragging rights are the proverbial icing on the cake for the ultimate winner, who has already received a free charter trip (along with the others in the top six).

I wouldn't put the price of the initial trip up too high. That will scare away many. The cost of the trip plus the extra $25 should be sufficient to pay for the charter and trophy. The bragging rights are priceless.  TT^

It's really going to come down to the party boat cost, tip for mates and the end prize. Getting a party boat booked for charter w/ 40 fares could be done. The tip for the mates can't be overlooked though if it's going to be a charter(Sorry, My .02 and don't want to see them work the day for nothing or minimal). Money seems to motivate most, but if a six pack charter, a trophy and bragging rites would get 40 guys signed up, I'm all for it. I'm seeing 2 boats (non sponsors though) that could handle the 40 fares at the average rate for party boat + a little more ($70) per guy, it would cover the boat and tips easily. A $25 entry fee would then leave $1000 for the charter trip or just straight out prize money for top 3 fish ($500/$300/$200) - Just more ideas I'm throwing out. If we went with a charter boat "fish off" for top 6 and sponsors were to help support this, we could easily put a nice prize together as well....(10 sponsors at $50 equates to $500) A sizable amount for cash prize on top of the 6 pack trip or trophies/plaques

I don't see any harm in added a tip for the mates into the price of the trip.  t^

It will be harder to get 40 people to agree on a date than anything else.

I'm still trying to reschedule my Fish Stix trip from last year!!! and that went from 6 to 2 !

Not seeing that being an issue here with this. May need to adjust for two trips/boats to handle the entries. I have @ 20 already who want in now before this even starts to fill up. It's only October.....
