Tournament of Champions fishing event
« on: August 31, 2013, 04:36:59 PM »
Looking to co- sponsor and hold a fishing event ("Tournament of champions") on a party boat (Next year). Event would be a one day fluke fishing competition. 80 people max. Cost of fare for trip plus a $25 entry fee that would go to the prize money for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place fish. Putting it out now to get an idea of how much interest there would be in getting in. I'd also be looking for other sponsors for prize donations, food, etc....

Good luck on getting 80 peeps, but if you do, you might want to split them between two charter boats. Can then have competition between the two boats and on the individual boats. Just a thought.  5hrug

For fluking trips, this # is feasible and may need to turn some down. Not sure if I would want that many but a number discussed with a Capt for fares. Your two boat idea is good, someone even suggested at different ports maybe to spread it out for the anglers and travel reduction....would be a matter of coordinating the same dates...

different ports

The only problem with different ports is that fishing in one port is usually a lot better in others. Whereas, the Sandy Hook area is typically a lot more productive than say, Barnegat and to the south. If more than one boat, I think it would be best out of the same port or at the very least, not spread out along the coast. Maybe a Belmar port vs a Manasquan port. Others may have a different opinion on this.

Anyone else with thoughts on this, throw them out there.

I think that for it to work 40 people on a sponsors boat would be the fairest way to do it, also think it would be much more enjoyable

50 on each boat, the sea horse and the fisherman on a week day (charter) 80 on one boat just isn't a lot of fun

As stated above, railing the boat with 80 guys is a bit much. $25 for the pool, jam packed with 80 guys is $2000. What is the prize money breakdown?

If you split the fares between 2 boats, aside from needing equal fishing opportunities, your drawings for the additional prizes need to take places on land, unless you have 2 of everything, which furthers the need for both boats to sail from the same location.

Will you be able to find two party boats willing to "compete" against each other? Naturally the results will be posted online, I'd hate to be the Captain who loses.

Here's an idea..

Do the party boat thing...a charter with maybe 35 45 guys/gals depending on the size of the boat picked....( don't try to jamb 80 people on one boat   nosmly) take the 6 biggest fish and have those 6 winners duke it out on a 6 pack charter for a winner take all Championship...

The party boat would be a qualifier for the final shoot out with the 6 going head to head...

Just a thought...

Now that's a cool idea. Maybe one of our sponsor boats keep help keep it reasonably priced.

Nice concept Kenny. That could work. You could keep the original fare that was stated (the fare on the party boat + $25 towards the pool), but instead of a cash pool, use the money to pay for the six pack charter, and award a nice Gold Trophy to the winner, & plaques to the 2nd and 3rd place Flukers.
