NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekend Edition: Sept 14-15, 2013

The weekend looks very nice!  Cooler and drier air will work into the area on Friday and by Friday Night will be settled in.  Dry conditions and sunny skies will dominate the weekend, too with just very low chances of showers Sunday Night into Monday Morning.  High temperatures will be in the upper 60’s to low 70’s on Sunday and mid 70’s to low 80’s on Sunday.  Overnight lows will be in the 50’s and 60’s with some chilly upper 30’s across northern areas and higher elevations Saturday Night.  Dew points will drop to the 40’s and 50’s bringing much lower humidity. Water conditions will be mostly good, but still feeling the effects of the long period swells from Gabrielle.  Saturday will see some gusty winds to 20 knots and seas 3-4 feet, but conditions will improve during the day Saturday into Sunday.  Surf and beach conditions will be ok with Moderate Risks of rip currents and some elevated, rougher surf in the 2-4 foot range.  Water temperatures are pretty steady with rivers and bays in the mid 70’s, ocean waters in the low 70’s and surf temperatures in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s.  UV Index will be High all weekend.

High pressure will build into the area behind a departing cold front for the weekend.  A dry, cold front will move across the region Sunday Night or Monday Morning, followed by another cool high pressure system for next week!

The Fall Weather pattern is really starting to get into place and the weeks of showers and thunderstorms should be behind us going into a more dry period with cooler and drier air.  Next week looks like a continuation of the weekend.  High temperatures will be in the upper 60’s to low 80’s with overnight lows in the low 40’s to mid 60’s along the water.  Humidity will be low all week.  Water and surf conditions look improved and are rated good all week. 

The tropics are active, but nothing is really a threat to land.  Even the systems that will make landfall will just bring some gusty winds and heavy rains.  Of course, flooding could be an issue with tropical moisture, but for the most part TD 10 will affect areas that could certainly use the rain!  TS Gabrielle will be gone by the weekend, moving off to the northeast and becoming remnants.  Hurricane Humberto is still out in the East Atlantic and should remain well offshore and out to sea.  There is another area of interest that is being watched.

Good morning!  It was brisk overnight with 40’s and 50’s across the state.  It has only warmed by a few degrees, so there is still a chill in the air with a cool, light breeze this morning.  The majority of the state has sunny skies with little to no clouds, but northern/northwestern areas are seeing some lingering clouds and will have a mix of sun and clouds being most sunny today.  Tonight will be clear except those northwestern areas again seeing some clouds and mostly clear skies.  There is no rain in the forecast today and it will be dry across the state.  High temperatures will be in the upper 60’s to low 70’s, with the warmest temperatures along/on the water being influenced by the warm ocean waters.  Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 40’s inland and across northern areas and low to upper 50’s along/on the water.  Dew points are in the 40’s and 50’s and will not increase much during the day.  This will keep humidity low and comfortable!

Water conditions are rated good for all locations today, however there are still some gusty winds this morning and lingering seas, especially from Great Egg Inlet to Delaware where there is still a Small Craft Advisory in effect until 10AM.  All other areas have been canceled.  Winds and seas will begin to settle this afternoon and begin improving for tomorrow, but that won’t last for long.  Raritan Bay will have northwest winds 10-15 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots tonight with seas 1-2 feet subsiding to 1 foot or less tonight.  Barnegat Bay will have west-northwest winds around 10 knots becoming west at 8 knots tonight then northwest after midnight with seas around 1 foot.  Delaware Bay will have northwest winds 10-15 knots with gusts to 20 knots diminishing to 5-10 knots tonight with seas 2-3 feet subsiding to 1-2 feet tonight.  Inshore ocean waters will have northwest/north-northwest winds 10-17 knots diminishing to 5-15 knots this afternoon with seas 2-3 feet at 8-10 seconds.  The higher winds will be across southern areas today.  Midshore to Offshore will have northwest winds 10-15 knots becoming west-northwest at 6-12 knots this afternoon with seas 3-4 feet at 8-9 seconds becoming 2-3 feet at 8-9 seconds this afternoon.

Surf and beach conditions are good with Low Risks of rip currents.  Winds will be gusty out of the northwest at 10-15 knots diminishing throughout the day.  Surf is normal with wave heights 1-3 feet with a 2-3 foot southeast swell at 8 seconds.  Surf temperatures are in the low 70’s.  UV Index is Moderate at 5/15.

Gabrielle is out of here and just remnants now being picked up by the cold front and moving off.  Humberto has weakened to a Tropical Storm and will go through weakening and intensifying over the next few days.  This storm will stay well offshore, but the effect will start being felt by Tuesday with increased seas and a long period swell to 15 seconds.  Seas will settle some , but the longer period swell will linger through the week.  Tropical Depression 10 has become Tropical Storm Ingrid and is in the process of making landfall on Central Eastern Mexico and move inland.  Beyond that, there is nothing else going on in the tropics right now.
