Krocodile Half Pounder
« on: October 14, 2013, 06:32:05 PM »
As I mentioned in my Rusty Krocodiles thread, I have several of these old, now discontinued, brass Krocodiles.  By the way, thanks to everyone for your help in getting them cleaned up. t^

All of these Krocs are 4 oz.  For the most part the 4 oz. is a good choice for most striper outings.  However, if the drift is too fast, or the current is too swift, I will switch out the Krocs in favor of some heavier metal, such as a 5 oz. Crippled Herring or a 6 oz. AVA or butterfly style jig.

While I realize that there are knock-offs available in heavier weights now, I figured I would try to make one from the stock I had.

Here goes:

First, I took two 4 oz. Krocodiles

Cut off the hardware

Soaked them in dishwashing liquid to get any dirt, grease and oil off of them

Dried them and roughed them up with sandpaper

Mixed the epoxy and spread it on the Krocs

Pressed them together and let the epoxy cure for 24 hours

Once hardened to full strength, I attached the oversized split rings

Sanded off any excess epoxy

Shined them up with some Brasso

Added a swivel to the top and a Siwash hook to the rear

The finished product.  The 8 oz.  "Half Pounder Kroc".  Now it's time to see how the stripers like it. t^

I wouldn't know the first thing about making a mold.  What would you make the lures out of if I could make one?  Brass? :headscra:

Nice work Bob. t^

I have huge box of old lures that I inherited from the wife's Grandfather.
Mostly freshwater stuff.
I should send it down your way to clean up. ;D pawle

Nice Bob,

you could weld a barb to a hook with JB weld and it would never come apart...

my buddy used it on his brake caliper- yup brake caliper- and it never came apart.

don't try that at home....
