Hit the inlet around 0900 yesterday, 10/21 with Brian and "Cheeto" who combined have 3 sea trips under their belt and of them only one fish. This is their first trip on a non-party boat. Exiting the inlet we headed North, periodically evaluating some bird life but, found nothing, no marks of bait or fish.
Stopped at the rocks and searched around and didn't see anything hopeful so we went off to the bluefish fleet to get Brian and Cheeto on some fish. Finding Capt Ron, the BP and others, including our own Capt Joe and Hunter I knew I was in a good area. We made a bunch of drifts picking up fish here and there. These we nice blues which had a great fight to them. Brian and Cheeto had to focus on keeping their feet on the deck and not falling over!
Bite stared to die off and Brian still hasn't landed a fish, although he had a few lost ones. Figuring there had to be a better fish presence I moved off away from the crowd into 90'-100'. Instantly the screen lit up with nice marks. It was a short drop and reel blitz for some nice blues. Seeing some darkness on the horizon I checked the radar.... Time to leave. We packed it in and headed to the barn in a nice wind and slop, making a bumpy ride back for the boys.
Although, we didn't find stripers the new guys had some action. They say "we'll be out again!".
