How late do you keep your boat in the water?
« on: October 13, 2007, 09:42:00 AM »
When will you pull your boat out of the water and put it to sleep for the winter?

I usually do this on Thanksgiving weekend.
It gets a good washdown and winterized.  All gear comes off and over the winter it is readied for next season.

Mine has to be out Nov 1.
My father is probably going to keep his in for 2-3 weeks after that.

Sad days.

Captain Mikes Marina:
Out By Oct 15. For another 100$ you can stay in as late as you want.  I usually pay it and fish up until Dec 1st.  Not sure yet on this year.

Hotrod - same rule at my marina, only out by Nov. 1 and for another $100 you can keep it in as long as you want.  But, because I went about three weeks without a boat in between when I sold my old one and bought my new one, they were nice enough to say I could stay in late without having to pay the extra cash this year.

I'll probably pull it out the first or second week of December.

10/31 w/no option for later. The $100 option sounds like a winner wish I had that.

In my marina, as long as you are keepiing the boat there in the winter (dry storage on the lot) there is no extra charge to stay in longer.  Marina gets the $$$ for the winter storage so is doesn't cost the marina anything for us to keep the boats in longer.  If you stay in too long there is no more room in the lot and you have to keep the boat in all winter.  This happened to me once, fortunately it was a very mild winter and we only had a short period of freezing weather.  I won't let that happen again.  TT^

CaptBob, when I had my motor put on my boat last year at Gateway Marina, I saw the river there was iced over.  That was one reason it took longer to get my motor done.  They had it installed in one day but couldn't get it out to sea trial it for a month!

I bought my boat new at Gateway.  They would pull all the boats if there was any forcast for hurricanes on the east coast and a threat of high winds in Jersey because of the storm.  No notice or anything.  But probably better they did.

I kept my boat in through Thanksgiving once, I enjoyed the fishing but froze my butt off getting it covered and winterized, now it comes home the end of Oct. :P

Hey Capt Bob, I agree but with my line of work, it all so falls into our busy season with Xmas around the corner, so for me I get stuck working some weekends then the other weekends you hope the weather is good, it was easier to hitch a ride with someone else or climb on a party boat which can be frustrating after being able to control your own fate on the water.

As we got the boat in mid-season, I did'nt have all that many options...the Marina I'm in now has their last pullout date on Nov. 9th, thats when I'm out..It's killin me.. So if ya see a fat guy in a Jon Boat out on a deep wreck  or surfing in the rips in Dec. You'll know I could'nt take it and have snapped  :o
