Sounds like a fun time on the beach Paul, makes me jealous I'm not closer so that I make those quick stops for 2 or 3 hours. t^

Yeah, it only takes me no more than 10 - 15 min. to get to the beach.  I usually carry my waders, surf bag and 2 pols in the Expedition in case the urge hits or I hear that the bite is on over the Ham radio.

Sounds like a blast.  The only problen here is in the summer when all the out of towner's decide to come to the shore and let off some steam and create traffic jams.  It is a good thing there are back roads they don't know about.

Yep, come on April, Skip.  Gotta get some of them stripers again this year and load up on the herring for bait for the summer.   TT^

Hi All,

Well I am going to try and get out in the morning tomorrow.  I hope...

No special time just get out there and drown some plugs and metal like the other day.  It worked then and I picked up a few blues so I will follow that pattern.

Boy that sounds so scientific  rofla It will have to do because it is the only time I have before going south for the holiday.

I haven't heard how some guys did that went out today in between the mess.
I know they were out because I heard them on my Ham radio.  I got to busy to get back to them to find out., sorry.

I will be traveling light as usual, just a few top water plugs in different colors and a bunch of AVA's and a Couple sizes of Krock's.

I will be trying out a new pattern on one of the AVA's I tied a length of what looks like that old trick the Chinese finger torture.  The color looks good, black and green with gold flash running through it.  I'll let you know how it works.

I also tied up an off white hair with blue flash to the bare hook on a Hopkins.  Again I'll let you know how it works.

Happy Catching

Hi All,

Well I went out for a couple of hours met a couple of nice guys and talked fishing then I went and drowned some metal.

I tied a new pattern on one of the AVAS's and it worked great but the two fluke tore it up pretty good.  Now I have to retie the pattern using different material.

I went to Ortley my usual starting place and as mentioned above I caught two small fluke no more than 30 ft from the beach.

The water was extremely rough but I had to try anyway because I won't be fishing till next week.  If any one wants to try new patterns in the AVA's or tying patterns onto other lures don't be afraid, for one its fun and second your change might produce better than the original.  The original had a green surgical tube.

I should of taken a picture before but here is the after picture and the chewed up tail.

I will be trying something similar only with different material.

Happy Catching

Good job Paul,
It's not easy pulling fluke in the latter days of November with the water temps in the low to mid fiftys.   t^

Hi All,

Thats what I thought, but they were there.

Here is a new tie that I just finished.  I took the chewed rope off and replaced it with a proper tie job this time.  The first picture is dry and the second is wet.  This way you can see what the jig looks like while in use.

Hi Bucktail,

They are both the same jig.  The first one is dry and the second one is wet.  I do that to make sure the pattern is working to my liking.

There are actually 5 layers in this jig. The green and the black are folded back over to form the head and the forward fins so to speak.

I can't wait to try it next week.

I am also working on a Clouser minnow but instesd of using a conventional hook I am trying a circle hook.  I am thinking in lines of a 3/0 and a 6/0.  I will post pictures as I make them.

Happy Catching

Hi All,

Well today seemed like a good day to be out on the beach, well I guess if you were a seagull it was.  Birds were diving all over the place but way too far out.  As far as the fleet there weren't any boats out at all except one when I was leaving the beach.  He was about 1/2 a mile off and working the birds could not see if he caught anything.

I tried many different types of lures but nothing seemed to work.  The tide was on the way out and moving fast.  That west wind was averaging about 12 to 18 mph with gusts to 23 mph.  Wouldn't doubt it if it was a blow out tide today.

0 fish, 1 beautiful day.

I was going to try some Storm Shad but left them at home on the work bench of well next time.  That was the tip I was given from Grumpys.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be better but the wind is suppose to shift the the SSW tonight, we'll see.

Happy Catching

Paul

Hi All,

I am going to give it a try.  They say the temp is going to drop over night I guess I got to put on the long johns a little early this year.

Either that or bring along some liquid heater.  Lets see what goes good in a thermos at the beach?

Hi All,

Today was a beautiful day for sun bathing early this morning,  I did not do too good but they were catching in Lavallette at the Lavellette & Ortley line by the first groin and down by 10th to 12th Ave in SSP.  T saw stripers landed at the first groin and at 11th Ave In SSP.  Both were shorts but they were catching.

When I first arrived at the beach I saw birds working 1/2 mile off shore and then I realized the line of birds started in front of the SSH Pier and as far north as you could see.  Wow, buit they were too far of shore the boatrs that were out were catching no doubt.  It looked like a great day to be out on the water.

I will be leaving to go back out in a few minutes, low tide is at 4:28 and I am try ing to make it out there before 3:30 it will be close.

BTW both fish I saw caught were on clams.  Further report later.

Happy Catching
