winter/off season projects
« on: October 19, 2007, 06:25:44 PM »
Now that the season is winding down, what  projects do you have in mind for the off season?

I need to add rod storage in my foward cabin to get my rods off of the bunks.  I have suffered too many broken rod tips storing them the way they have been done.

Also, show some pics, before and after, if possible.  I will have to get my camera down to the boat before I (or bettery yet, Andy) begin the work.

Well, my season will begin after my daughter finishes competitions in November.  I will go as long as the fish are biting off the beach or my fingers fall off.

After that I plan on making a number of new plugs that I have in mind.  Plus taking the time to dream about next year.

I am putting together a woodworking shop in my garage plus other things.  I just bought a 12" drill press and am planning on a small lathe for turning plugs.  Oh yeah a small band saw also.

I would love to add a small welder to do small jobs in aluminum.  Hey fihson would a 180 amp mig work?

I am going to begin to clean out the garage and get rid of a lot of junk.

I would love to install a pot belly stove out there to make it nice and cozy.  I don't know if they even make them anymore.

I think that should take me through the winter, if not I'm sure the wife will have things for me to do.

Happy Catching

Thanks Kevin,

I use to make them years ago but family got a grow-in and there went that sold a lot of stuff.  Now my daughter is a senior in HS I am thinking of getting back into it again.

I have a radial arm saw 12" drill press picking up a 10" band saw this weekend and I am looking at the lathe from Pen State Industries.  1/2 hp continuous speed motor with continuous torque through the speeds.

I am so looking forward to this project.  I put it off long enough.

Happy Catching

I'm in the same predicament as you Joe. I have been looking for 4 years now for the just right type of rod holders. I have room for 2 maybe 3 on each side, and maybe a couple over head.
