Pops Soul Sunday
« on: October 21, 2007, 10:23:47 PM »
Well guys it was another nice day on the water, hard to believe it is the 3rd weekend in October and we are still fishing in tee shirts. The wife and I left the marina around noon with a light west wind at our backs and flat seas we headed for the Sea Girt Reef. The original wreck I wanted to hit was taken by a the Stingray a dive boat out of Shark river, after looking over the GPS and other potential property to call our own. We pulled up on the Capt. Etzel a 110 foot barge with no one else near it we set the anchor and on the third attempt hit the spot to where I could stay on the hook and work the wreck by letting out more rode and switching my tie off to the port or starboard bow cleats. We had our share of undersized seabass and found that they referred Salted clam over Squid. Water temp was up over yesterday back up to 67 degrees on the surface. The wind shifted to the south around 3 o'clock. We had only Seabass while on the wrecks not even one Bergull which I found intresting 5hrug. At 4 pm we pulled the hook and put the trolling outfits out and with in a 1/4 mile we had a bluefish on and the wife finally got a chopper in the boat, an said after that she would stick to the gaff and I could bring those in they were to much like work! ;D The wife had a nice Humpback while on the wreck so it was kind of her day for putting the fish on the boat which was great to see her have a good day putting some quality fish in the boat. t^

Yo Treebeard, what happened?  I hope it's not a serious problem and you can be up and running in time for the striper run.

Thanks capt joe, Nothing too serious... I hope..Shredded power steering belt..but we gonna want to have the whole system checked...we where on our way out to the BA buoy and a few miles SE of the hook, in the middle of the SH channel I lose steerage..could'nt anchor, so had to just drift..a bit sketchy  :o Hats off to SeaTow..they where there in less than 30 minutes..

Good choice on having everything checked.  The belt shredded for a reason, best to find out why.
Drifting the channel with all them big boats can be a bit nerve racking.
