Looks like now u can keep 4 over 73 inches while fishing commercially under the HMS Charterboat permit!

But we're fishing recreationally on a commercial boat. I think they play both sides of the fence..... If we want meat it falls under recreational on a charter/headboat rules. If we want our trip paid for, they keep the big ones under the commercial rules. We are no longer recreational because our money has been refunded.

It's how the trip is "declared"(Charter/Commercial) I believe, just need to determine when that decision is to be made

No brainer to me, I would say boat the big one, take the fuel savings money back and load up on some lobster to bring home, I for one just want to see you guys get a shot at them and maybe even a pic of you guys hoisting a tuna outta that boat.

This is how I understand it.
For HMS Charter/Headboat-permitted vessels: 2 school BFT (27 to <47") + 1 large school/small medium BFT (47-<73") or 4  BFT measuring 73” or greater.
1)   If we go with the 73” or greater we get no meat and the best we can do is get a free trip.
2)   If we go with the other option we get to bring home meat and still can catch and release a giant (if one bites). But have to pay for the trip.
Seems to me #1 benefits the boat more then us.
If I didn’t want to pay for the trip, I would stay home.
It’s more about the experience then the money or the food.  Heck I don’t even care if I get to touch a rod.
I think #2 is the way to go, but I have no problem with anything everyone else wants to do.
All this only matters if a fish bites and we get it to the boat.
Fishing Sandy Hook and anywhere I can get on a boat.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife sells all of my fishing tackle for what she thinks I paid for it!

And yes Kenny....there is no Federal Regulation that requires all tuna over 73 inches " MUST" be retained by the boat.....so I agree with your  5hrug....or was it  :headscra:
Personally, I would just make it a commercial trip...go after the big boys, get a free trip out of it, make great memories....then take some of  the money from the trip...fuel up rods boat and go catch your meat fish right here in home waters!  t^
