A mixed week with hot temperatures, showers and thunderstorms and Cautious water conditions to start the week. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms all week. Showers and thunderstorms will be mostly scattered to widely scattered, however Monday and Tuesday could see more organized storms and even strong to severe weather possible. Overall, skies look to be more sun than clouds or a mix of sun and clouds. Monday, Tuesday and even Wednesday could be breezy with gustier winds. Highs will be in the 70’s to 90’s with 70’s mostly along the coast. Highs inland will be mainly in the 80’s and a couple days of 90’s with moderate to high humidity. Overnight lows will be in the 60’s and 70’s with some low 60’s, maybe even 50’s late in the week as cooler and drier air moves in. Water conditions will be Cautious with Small Craft Advisories likely on Monday and Tuesday, maybe even into Wednesday, especially Southern waters and Midshore to Offshore. A southerly/southwesterly flow will continue through midweek as well. Winds will increase tonight to 15-20 knots with gusts to 25 knots possible into Monday. Tuesday will see 10-20 knots and Wednesday will have 10-15 knots with 20 knot gusts possible. Conditions improve later on Wednesday through the weekend. Offshore waters could see seas building to 6-8 feet through Thursday before improving. Surf and beach conditions will be Cautious on Monday and Tuesday, maybe even Wednesday due to gustier winds, high surf and rough surf and moderate to high rip current risks. Conditions will improve around Wednesday then through the weekend. Surf heights could approach 6 feet with a constant 4-5 foot southerly/southwesterly swell. Water temperatures are a few degrees cooler (some places below normal) from upwelling from Arthur and this southerly flow. Temperatures are still in the 60’s and some 70’s for all waters. UV Index will be High to Very High this week.
High pressure from the Central Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico will be the primary influence through Wednesday. A cold front arrives in the Mid Atlantic during midweek and then settles slowly to the south of DELMARVA by Friday. High pressure follows into our area Friday into Saturday before the next cold front moves eastward into the region next weekend.
There is an area being watched in the Atlantic almost exactly where Arthur began, off the Southeast Coast. This disturbance is more north and does not look like it will drift south, but continue off to the northeast. If it doesn’t, this will be something to watch for tropical development and involvement in the area again. Another disturbance is being watched in the Eastern Pacific.
The weekend looks to be a mix of sun and clouds with chances of showers and/or thunderstorms. Highs will continue in the 70’s and 80’s with 60’s and 70’s overnight. Water, surf and beach conditions should be good for the weekend.
Have a great week and thanks for reading!
